Connect Academy Students Volunteer to Fight Global Hunger

Connect Academy students volunteered to help pack more than 21,000 meals for children and families facing food insecurity around the world.

A Meaningful Day of ServiceStudents from Mr. Adjoumani’s class at Connect Academy recently took part in a powerful service-learning experience during a field trip to Feed My Starving Children in Aurora. During the visit, students volunteered their time to help pack nutritious meals that will be distributed to children and families facing food insecurity around the world.

The experience gave students the opportunity to step outside the classroom and participate in a meaningful effort to help others, while also learning about the global challenge of hunger.

Working Together for a Global Mission
While volunteering, students worked in teams to carefully measure, pack, and seal food packages that will be shipped internationally to communities in need. The hands-on activity required students to follow directions, collaborate with one another, and stay focused on the shared goal of helping others.

By the end of their volunteer shift, the class had made an incredible impact.

Together, the students packed:

• 101 boxes of food
• 21,816 meals for children and families
• Enough meals to provide daily nutrition for 60 children for an entire year
• A total contribution valued at $6,326.64

Their hard work directly supports Feed My Starving Children’s mission to combat global hunger and provide life-saving nutrition to children around the world.

Growth Beyond the Classroom
Beyond the measurable impact of the meals packed, the experience also highlighted the personal growth of Connect Academy students.

Throughout the volunteer session, students demonstrated:

• Strong teamwork and collaboration
• The ability to follow multi-step directions
• Sustained focus during a structured task
• Increased engagement and pride in their work

For many students, participating in a service opportunity like this builds confidence and reinforces the value of contributing to something bigger than themselves.

A Proud Moment for the Connect Academy Community
For the staff who accompanied the students, the day was especially meaningful. Seeing students engage in the community and take pride in their work was a powerful reflection of their progress.

Connect Academy Site Administrator, Mollie Marshall, shared:

Watching the students during their volunteer experience at Feed My Starving Children was truly moving. Being able to participate in the community with them was amazing, and I’m so proud of their growth. Just a year ago, I never imagined this would be possible.
