At Connect Academy, dedicated educators like Brandon Keller play a crucial role in helping students reach their full potential. With 12 years of experience in special education and three years at Connect Academy, Brandon is committed to creating a structured, supportive learning environment that empowers students both academically and emotionally.

A Passion for Special Education
Brandon was inspired to pursue a career in special education by his desire to help students overcome challenges and unlock their potential. He holds a Bachelor of Education from Illinois State University and a Master’s in Special Education from the American College of Education, equipping him with the skills to adapt instruction and provide individualized support for each learner.

Creating a Structured & Supportive Classroom
For Brandon, high expectations and consistency are key to student success. “Having high expectations is key. Focus on consistency in both routine and response to students.” By maintaining clear routines, expectations, and positive reinforcement, he creates a safe, predictable learning environment where students can develop confidence and independence.

Incorporating Therapeutic Approaches for Student Growth
Brandon integrates therapeutic strategies into daily instruction, using the AIM (Accept, Identify, Move) curriculum to help students build emotional regulation and coping skills. He takes a solution-focused approach when students feel frustrated, guiding them toward self-awareness and constructive problem-solving strategies.

Personalized Instruction for Individual Growth
Recognizing that every student learns differently, Brandon tailors his teaching to each student’s strengths and areas for growth. “Each student is different, and therefore has different strengths and areas that can be improved upon. Using an approach of incorporating a student’s strength into the program to feel successful, while challenging them to better themselves in challenging areas.” This strength-based approach helps students feel capable and motivated while also pushing them toward continuous improvement.

Collaboration: A Team Effort
Brandon believes that educating students is a collective effort, and regular collaboration with teachers, therapists, and specialists is essential for student success. “Educating our youth truly is a team effort. We regularly set time aside to collaborate with staff in an effort to address the needs of the students. Each professional brings a wealth of knowledge to the table, and this is crucial in fully developing our students to reach their full potential.” By working closely with the entire support team, Brandon ensures that students receive consistent, well-rounded support that aligns with their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

A Focus on Independence & Future Success
Brandon’s ultimate goal for his students is to help them develop independence and the skills needed to thrive beyond the classroom. “Helping students to become more independent, in an attempt to prepare them for a more independent life after school where they have the skills to care for themselves and thrive in a career.” By fostering self-reliance, problem-solving abilities, and confidence, he helps students prepare for long-term success in school, work, and life.
